3-10-17 on to Ellijay for the weekend:
A few months ago, Angie started planning a weekend to a cabin in Ellijay with Josh's folks and us. We had gone with them once before (back when they lived here about 5 years ago) and looked forward to going again. It was a fun weekend then, and it was a fun weekend this time.
So on the 10th, Ken and I took off early and enjoyed the ride through the countryside to the northwest Georgia area.
One of the many horses we saw along the way. There sure are a lot of horses in Georgia! Wonder if this is a descendant of an Indians pinto horse.
love seeing spring beginning to arrive.
I don't know what these trees are, but when they start leafing out, their leaves are red. Instead of the Blue Ridge mountains, they're the Red Ridge mountains in the spring.
They seem to have some of the prettiest barns out that way, too.
love being able to ride up into the mountains
more of the mountains.
We arrived at the cabin---River Run--- about 4 pm.
It was really nice. Nice, too, that they had the blinds open and the TV on playing music.
Since we were the first ones there---Josh had to work until about 3 and his folks were driving in from St. Louis (about an 8 hour drive). I immediately took a tour of the cabin and snapped a bunch of photos. Here's the 2nd downstairs bedroom which was right below the upstairs bedroom. Carol and Darryl had this room. Apparently the ceiling is the floor of the upstairs room, so it was a bit noisy with the dogs jumping around up there all night.
The cabin was certainly done up in cabin style. Wonder where they got all the bear stuff?! This was the shower curtain in their bathroom.
Our bathroom----
Our bedroom.
cute little desk and dog area under the stairs to the upstairs bedroom.
from the kitchen towards the upstairs bedroom.
the dining room behind the kitchen. We spent quite a bit of time in here---eating many great meals and playing hours of Mexican Train Dominoes.
looking toward the front of the house from our room's doorway.
the upstairs bedroom where Angie, Josh and their 2 pups slept.
their tiny bathroom.
they even had a patio from their room.
the place was filled with decorations. Some thought maybe too much.
Looking down towards the back door.
looking down on the kitchen with the dining room behind it.
love the vaulted ceilings and the high windows. Our bedroom was just to the right of the fireplace.
they even had bear shaped table mats on the master bedroom nightstands.
the back patio over looking the river.
from the other side of the porch looking towards the hot tub.
Another picture before the others arrived.
Apparently even Bigfoot lives up this way.
Since everyone else was arriving later, I brought stuff to prepare lasagna and had it ready to bake when Angie and Josh arrived. Soon after, Josh's folks arrived and we had our first of many great home cooked meals that weekend. Then we played dominoes and visited before calling it a day---a great one at that.
