11-3-17  to Helen, Ga:

After going to Gibb's Gardens with Angie yesterday, I was more anxious then ever to get up to the mountains to check out the colorful leaves.  It looked like it may be past peak already, although it seemed like a lot of trees just lost their leaves before they could change colors.  We were told later that when tropical storm Irma came through, it blew the leaves off a lot of trees, thus the bare trees now.  But it was still pretty,  I know in a couple weeks the rest of the leaves will be gone.  With our busy schedule, today was the best day to get up there.  Our destination----Brasstown Bald (the highest point in Ga.).  But a stop in Helen for lunch was in order along our way.
I guess the first destination was actually the ride to the mountains.  It was about an hour drive with a good part of that on highway 985.
Beautiful views along hwy 985
At one area along hwy 985, you can see School Bus Graveyard.  I bet it would be interesting to wander around in here, but I understand it's private property and the owner charges something like $20/person to get in and only on certain days.  So I shot these photos as we were driving by at highway speeds.

Oct. 17, 2016---Brasstown Bald, Helton creek falls, lot of pretty leaves!!!

After riding up to Lookout Mountain in Tennessee yesterday, I figured it was time to take a Fall ride up into the northern mountains of Georgia!  It's always a beautiful ride, but it was even more beautiful today with all the trees changing colors.
As many times as we've ridden up there, this was the first time I noticed this graveyard, artwork of old school busses and other vehicles.

8-2-16 Dukes Creek Falls and Brasstown Bald Mountain:

Time to play tourist again!  When we had gone up to Helen back in June, there was a scenic drive and a couple more water falls close to there that I thought would be nice to see.  So we headed back up that way.  Nice that it's only about an hour from our place.  Nice being able to ride on state highways and get away from Atlanta traffic.
The scenic drive starts a few miles before Helen just off 75A, coming up from Cleveland, Ga.  I knew it was going to be a nice day right from our first scenic pull off!

6-20-16  To Helen and Anna Ruby Falls for our anniversary:

Today is our 41st anniversary.  We really had no plans for the day.  Angie suggested we go up to the cute little town of Helen in the northern mountains of Georgia (about 1.5 hours from home).  So we did!  I'm glad she made the suggestion.  I still don't know what's around, but I'm beginning to do some research.  I see there are a lot of water falls in the north, so hopefully we'll start going to them.
