6-21-16 checking out Lake Lanier:
Time to try and find a sunset spot along the lake. Although there really haven't been many pretty sunsets that I've noticed since we've been here. I'm really missing our close go-to park there in Florida! So today we took I-985 to the Lanier Islands exit and headed towards the lake. We pulled up to the entrance to Lanier Islands, but didn't want to pay the entrance fee just to go there (something like $15?). But the lady working the booth was very nice and gave us a big map of the lake with all the public beaches listed on it. With that in hand, we decided to head up the East side of the lake to check out those parks. Not only is that the right side of the lake for sunset, but it's also the closest to us---about a 15-20 minute drive.
It was pretty cloudy, so no sunset tonight, either. But it was nice checking out more parks along the river. Unlike Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, there are a bunch of really nice parks with beaches and boat access all around Lake Lanier. Around Lake of the Ozarks, there's more houses right on the lake.
This park looked like a great place to take the kayak.
More of the area where I think the kayaking would be good.
and more
looking the other way. There are even little islands not far from shore.
By now the lighting was pretty bad, so we didn't bother checking out any more areas.
