11-9-17  traveling back to Buford, Ga, by way of more waterfalls: Bridal Veil Falls and Dry Falls

The forecast said it was suppose to be partly sunny today.  I guess that didn't apply here!  Our 3rd straight day of complete overcast and thick fog.  At least it wasn't raining.  But we still planned our trip to take in a couple more waterfalls along our trip back home.  Had to make a slight detour from the fastest route home, but it was worth it!
Back on 64 and heading South to Highlands.
The cute little town of Highlands---near the Southern NC border.

pretty church across from where we had breakfast.
Where we had breakfast.  Yes, a grocery store!  A few people told Josh that there was a restaurant in there that served great food.  When Angie pulled up places for breakfast in Highlands, it had a score of 5 out of 5 with over 150 reviews---ranking it #1 in the area.  With that assurance, we had breakfast there.  We split a plate of pancakes and sausage and a plate of french toast and bacon.  Both were excellent!  We will be going back there whenever we're up that way again.
Bellies full, we took off for the cutoff that goes by some more waterfalls.  Along the way we just happened to see this covered bridge.  Didn't stop, though.
At the edge of town we did stop for a view of this lake.
We even found another waterfall here.  Manmade, but still interesting.
 Another view of the lake
 and the waterfall.
Just past Highlands we came to the first waterfall we had researched---Bridal Veil Falls.  It was listed in out brochure as a "drive behind" waterfall.
We've never done that and thought that would be a great photo op.  Unfortunately the road is now closed off to cars.  But it was still easy to walk behind and right off the highway.
Next one was Dry Falls.  It was listed as a walk behind.  So we took the trail down to it.
 It was huge!
a lot of water going down the falls!  Pretty impressive and another one pretty close to the road.
Angie hustling through trying not to get wet.
 Near the first overlook.
There's even a handicap accessible overlook.  So we went to check it out.  We even got a sliver of blue sky then!
 Nice handicap accessible view!
Now we got to drive along with partly sunny skies for a little while.
Not much shoulder on this road!
At one point we found a pull off by the river.
Even got to see a little falls there.
Don't know if it is one of the 250 advertised, but it was pretty, too.
Back on the road with no shoulders.
At least there wasn't a lot of traffic.
 Lots of curves, though.
Not too far along this road we came to the route that took us back to 64 and on to Georgia.  Too bad it's only 120 miles to home!  I could drive along these views for hundreds more!
You could tell we were getting close to Gainesville when we saw the chicken transport trucks.  There are your fresh Purdue chickens!
Made it back home by 2:30.  Another great day, even with all the clouds.
