11-7-17  Wyndham Resort at Fairfield Sapphire Valley:

This was our first trip here, but hopefully not our last.  The location is great!  Only 120 miles from our place in Buford, Ga., and in the southern mountains of N. Carolina.  Right in the middle of a bunch of waterfalls and quaint little towns.  Only about 60 miles from The Biltmore.  It's even considered a ski resort!  I'm glad it wasn't cold enough to be a ski resort while we were there, but it would probably be interesting to see skiers on the bunny hills right behind the unit we were in.

The unit---We were in building 4, unit 2645 and 2656: a 1 bedroom deluxe and a 1 bedroom suite.  I didn't take pictures of the suite, but it was exactly the same as the suite Angie, Faith, and I stayed in at Lake Lure in the summer.  So I'm including a few pictures of it:
It was downstairs from the 1 bedroom deluxe unit.  This is the suites mini kitchen, bathroom to the right, weird Jacuzzi with window to the kitchen in the middle, and bedroom to the left.
 nice size bedroom.

mini kitchen with stairs to "living room" in the back.
Looking down on the suite from the stairs.
the tiny living room with fold out couch upstairs by the entrance to the unit.
Now, back to Sapphire Resort and the 1 bedroom deluxe:
from the living room looking towards the kitchen and front door (lock off door to the right of the front door.)
 nice TV.
 nice high lofted ceilings.
 dining room and balcony.
from front door towards the living area---bedroom and bathroom to the right.
good size bedroom with comfy bed
 living room from dining room.

 small but adequate kitchen
from our patio---a bunny slope with snow maker and conveyor belt.
ski lift for the slope a little farther back.

It is very dated, but they said renovations were suppose to start last month, although with Hurricane Irma causing so much damage in the Virgin Islands resorts and South Florida resorts renovations here have been put off for a few months.  The suites are a bit awkward with the weird Jacuzzi and the little living room away from everything else, but they are a nice size.  Only real problem we had was that the hot water was shut off in the deluxe unit and the office didn't know about that until the next day.  Since we were only there for 2 nights and didn't need hot water the first night, we didn't bother trying to get it fixed or moved to another room.  A lot of little maintenance issues---burnt out light bulbs and a shower door in the suite that didn't shut (causing a more major issue with the bathroom floor, I presume).  Good thing is I didn't see any bugs and there was WiFi (no phone service with my Sprint phone,  although Angie's phone worked--AT&T?).
It definitely has the potential for being a really nice resort inside and out.  Hopefully they get to the renovations in a couple months.  But even dated and with it's faults, it's worth going to for the region it's in.  They even have a nice restaurant on property and indoor and outdoor pools.
I'm sure we'll be back.
