We were at the pool a couple days ago got into a nice conversation with another couple. I think the whole time we lived in Florida and went to our complex pool, we never really talked with anyone. Here we've met a few people already. This couple told us about a couple restaurants they really like. One is Chinese, so I figure we'll never be checking that out! But the other one is an Italian restaurant, Antoneta's, in Dacula, Ga. not too far from Buford. That one peeked Ken's interest enough for him to pull it up online. Then he decided we should go there. I'm game, so tonight we went there. Just a little place in a strip mall.
But the food was excellent and reasonably priced! I got the Chicken Francesca (egg battered chicken sauteed in a lemon, butter, white wine sauce) for $12.50 which included a salad and pasta. It was excellent.
We also wanted to try their pizza, so ordered one and took most of it home. It has moved up to our favorite pizza in Georgia now. And it was only about $14 for a large.
Ken got the veal Parmesan for $12.95 and said it was as good as Cunetto's in St. Louis (which charges about $25 for that meal). He was bragging that the restaurant was as good as Cunetto's. But I have to disagree since Antoneta's doesn't have Bistecca Soto! Seems the Italian restaurants around here don't serve beef! But everything else was excellent.
From there we decided to make our way to Lake Lanier and look for "our" sunset spot. I think we may have found it!!!! Our Loxahatchee of Georgia! Only they call it Old Federal Park.
There were even people playing something similar to volleyball! Obviously volleyball is not a big sport here! I can't even find anywhere to play.
I thought it interesting that there are lifejacket loaners here.
We figured when the lake is at normal levels, that tuft of trees is an island. So that's where I headed.
I'd assume water has washed the ground out from under these tree roots.
Looking to the East from Federal Park. I'd say they've built in a great location. Perfect for watching the sunset.
looking back towards the swim area.
found the long shadows from the short rocks interesting.
close up of a couple of the little houses to the East.
Here you go Angie---your house on the lake!
looking towards the North is a marina.
on to the little island at the end of the tombolo.
looking back towards the park.
interesting tree on the "island".
love the texture of the bark.
Ken resting.
looking East from the island.
Could be a boating hazard when the water is up.
looking back towards the swim area from the end of the island.
sunset looked promising.
then it slipped into the clouds and disappeared.
Got a little bit of color, but not for long.
still a pretty evening, though.
just after sunset the geese moved in.
It's not the ocean, but neither was Loxahatchee. No alligators to watch for, but that could be a good thing. A bit farther away then Loxahatchee was, but not a bad ride. I think we'll be going back here regularly.
