5-31-18  to Savannah with Angie and Layla:

We've been settled into Perry, Ga. for a good 2 or 3 weeks now---time to get to vacationing again!  So when Angie asked if I wanted to go with her, Josh, and Layla to Savannah for a night, then up to Edisto Beach for the weekend, I excitedly said yes!  Josh had a company meeting in Savannah Thursday night (tonight) and more meetings Friday, so Angie, Layla, and I were on our own to enjoy Savannah.
But first we had to get there.  So we left in early afternoon and headed East.  It's a pretty 2.5 hours drive through mostly countryside. 

It was a beautiful day, too.  After the last couple weeks of almost non-stop rain, we weren't sure what we would get during this trip.

After about 2.5 hours, we hit I-95 and headed North towards the Savannah/Hilton Head airport. Even passed an airforce museum near our exit.

We didn't actually stay downtown.  Instead we were near the airport--guess it had to do with Josh's company footing the bill for him.  There happened to be a Wingate by Wyndham right behind the Hyatt they were staying in, so for $80 less, I booked myself a room there.  I wasn't disappointed, and it was an easy walk to their Hyatt hotel.  The view from my window was pretty awesome, too.

The room was really nice for a hotel, too.  Would love to have all this space in a cruise ship cabin!

After checking in and unloading our stuff for the night, we headed to downtown Savannah in search of dinner.  Decided to make reservations for this place for lunch tomorrow---Paula Dean's restaurant Lady and Sons.

Bet this college has some neat class rooms.

Angie found this place online.  The reviews made it sound interesting, so we decided to give it a try.

Put our name on the list and headed out to walk around a bit.

there were even a bunch of interesting trash cans for cleaning up after your dogs.  These were buried in the ground.  Savannah is a very dog friendly town.

After about 20 minutes we got a text that our table was ready.  Then we had 5 minutes to get back to the restaurant.  We made it.  It's not a big restaurant, or a fancy one--just unique.

Then Angie and I decided to split a couple entrees so we decided on the Grilled apple pie sandwich and the chicken and pancake tacos!

Even Layla enjoyed the place.

I think she liked the way the table was refinished.

I'll have to admit, the food was REALLY good!  The apple pie sandwich had bacon and cheese on it as well as cinnamon baked apples.  And the home made chips and local IPA were also very good.

The chicken pancake tacos had a spicy strawberry "salsa" on them that gave them a unique and tasty kick.

We had ordered fried avacado as an appetiser, but the waiter forgot them, so he brought them to us later---on the house.  They were good, too, but we were full by then.

We decided to go walk some of our dinner off, so headed to the river.  Passing more historic old buildings and statues.

Around the back of the City Hall is a visitors' elevator to the riverfront.  So we took it since we had a stroller in tow.

We were there for sunset, although there really wasn't much of one.

This was only my 2nd time to Savannah---last time was only for lunch on our way to Edisto from Atlanta a few years ago, but I can already tell I love this town!
