9-30-17 our drive from St. Louis to Knoxville:
Well, another 2 weeks pretty much flew by. Time to move along. This time we were on our way to Knoxville. Pretty much the same route as to Atlanta, except that we switched to I-40 in Nashville instead of staying on I-24. We're becoming quite familiar with the scenery along the way.
At first, there's lots of flat farmlands in Illinois.
Looks like the soy beans are about ready for harvest.
Always on the lookout for interesting buildings.
The corn crops look like they're ready for harvest, too.
In case you ever wondered what Rend Lake College in Illinois looked like---here it is.
Rend Lake in Southern Illinois.
More of Rend Lake.
We even saw one of the Beatles in Southern Illinois!
Back to barns----looks like this one has solar panels.
This time we made it out of Illinois without delays and on into Kentucky where we were happy we weren't going the other way.
The above accident had traffic backed up for miles and miles and miles.
So long that dinosaurs were even caught in the traffic.
One of the barns I remember from our many trips across country.
A couple more---maybe the last time we see the one on the left?
A copule more of my favorites---the one on the left reminds me of frayed fabric.
Been watching this one slowly disintegrate over the years.
a truck full of onions?
Heading into middle Tennessee. Love getting into the mountains.
nothing like the main interstate through Nashville being closed! Fortunately we usually take a bypass anyway.
On I-40 now and heading to Knoxville.
I also love lone trees in fields.
especially when there's so much color around them
Getting into the Eastern mountains of Tennessee!
nothing like a vehicle in front of you with debris flying all over the place.
one of the many huge crosses along the route.
going through the mountains.
getting close!---I recognize those cooling towers of Oakridge anywhere.
Off I-40 and on Pallissippi Hwy heading to the kids' house. What a view to see while going to and from your place everyday!
We got there about dinner time, so were soon on our way to a new Mexican Restaurant that they wanted to try. It was very good. Even Ken seems to want to go back there.
