2-21-17  Poole's Mill covered bridge:

Ken found another historical covered bridge for us to check out.  It looked like today would be a good day to do that---we're in a bit of a rainy period right now.  It was about 50 minutes away, but it was a nice ride.  Especially now that most of Highway 20, that we often take to I-75 to avoid Atlanta traffic, is mostly open again.  Much nicer ride through there now!
Love avoiding the city and getting to enjoy the rural areas, too.

Finally made it to Poole's Mill Park.  Just a little city park in Cumming, Ga.  It is one of Georgia’s 16 scenic historic covered bridges,
It's a nice little city park with history as well as a playground and a river for swimming and fishing in.
There is even a little garden walk within the park.

The bridge was restored in the mid 1990's when it became county owned.
Originally this was the land of a Cherokee chief.  He had an uncovered bridge in this spot.
A little more history about the covered bridge.
A neat historical bridge and easy access.
 A cardinal enjoying the park.
In the warm weather months (warmer then the 70's of Feb.), this is used as a water slide.
Would have loved playing here as a kid!
Another view of the bridge from the other side.
Looking back at it as we were on our way out.
So many neat places to discover.  Looking forward to spring and heading up into the mountains again.
